The commission entailed the installation of a statue by sculptor Rodrigo Espada to mark the consecration of the city of Pamplona/Iruña to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The final size of the bronze reproduction of the statue was set at six meters, taking as a reference the height of the pre-existing sculpture—integrated into the adjacent building—which approaches that magnitude. It was also decided to site the new statue independently of the existing buildings.
Ignacio Vicens conceived the idea of creating a dedicated space for the statue—a new park for the city—defined by a large earthen mound crowned by the statue, around which a space for contemplation and reflection is established. We had the privilege of carrying out the technical development for the project's execution and construction works.
Arriving, Crossing, and Being.
The mound was created using the same soil consolidation techniques typically employed for the embankments that support highway and road overpasses. The pathways were constructed using *in situ* reinforced concrete slabs with a broom-swept finish; the edges of the slopes were defined using Corten steel plates, and lighting fixtures were installed to illuminate the site at night.
