Orayen: Consolidation of Ruin

Remains of an old parish church predating the current one.

Originating from an old, abandoned church, the advanced state of its decay necessitated consolidation work on the ruin. These interventions—mandated by safety concerns for the immediate surroundings, the state-level protection afforded to such ruins, and civil liability obligations—serve to preserve the historical markers and traces that characterize vast, virtually uninhabited rural landscapes.
The project was executed using lime, stone, a copper sill, a crane, a backhoe, and six scaffolding bays.

The effort successfully salvaged a stone niche—which may once have housed the Eucharistic reserve—as well as several exquisite arch springers that, in their prime, supported a nave featuring groin vaults.

The work was completed using stone materials sourced directly from the site.
