36 COLUMBARIA

It is the drawing shadows and lights, slipping between the tombs slits, towards the sculpted star on the ground where this project begins and ends. The symbolic nature of the work imposes on its function. A representation of the triumph of Life over death, of the immaterial and intangible over the material.

To be able to express what these shadows and lights draw had to be preceded by a lot of patience from all of us… although the columbaria were built at the start of the project their installation had to wait for the excavations, in respect to the underground vestiges, the execution of floor ventilation, the reconstruction of the upper vaults, the restoration and machining of the stained glass windows, the recovery and installation of the wooden floors, but above else the drying of the walls. Years of waiting for a small intervention.

A lot of effort by many working so that it looks like no work has been done, one of the paradoxes of restoration.
